I won't be wearing a mask either.......they offer little or no protection and leave the eyes uncovered....the virus can gain access to your body through the mucous membrane of the eyes.......so these masks that the governement are ordering are a waste of money(no surprise there then).

As for the leaflet drop to every home, that is also a waste of space....Lettie has given the best advice.

Re: swine fever.

I live in California... Mexico is on our doorstep. We have two little girls in school and schools in our next district are closing because of confirmed cases of the flu. We are taking precautions and are in fear of this becoming worse.
US CDC, and now WHO are raising threat levels to pandemic 5.
I hope these glib and paranoid remarks about "man made" and "new world order" don't come back to bite anyone. I think this is the wrong time for this type of conspiracy agenda. It's nonsense.
Keep your eyes wide, the news turned on and all the precautions you can for you and your families.
I hope this goes nowhere.

Re: swine fever.

to be honest i think the fastest way this will spread is if n infected person works in a building with air con , i know peope who work in places with air con and if one person gets sick they all get it sooner or later but folk get penalised if they stay off work so they go in when ill

Taking simple precautions should make this Flu no worse than any other type of flu.......sneezing and coughing into a tissue......and disposing of the tissue sensibly(lidded bin)....making sure that all hard surfaces that are touched regularly e.g. door handles, light switches etc are cleaned, should minimise the spread.
Also if you do get the symptoms then it is sensible to go to bed.....minimise contact with outsiders, take plenty of fluids and analgesics for the aches and pains.
Those who may need more medical intervention are those with pre-existing heart or chest conditions, diabetics and the immune compromised.

While you are close to the area where the infection first arose, it doesn't necessarily follow that you will become infected.
You have to get the risks into some sort of perspective.

Re: swine fever.

The point on air con is a very good one, for the last 2 days I have been sat directly under an air con vent in our training room in Sale, at about 11:30 this morning I started to get a cold sore, could feel the tingle and now it's like a second head! I very very rarely get cold sores and have had no contact with anyone who could have passed it on, I blame the air con unit, just hope it clears up soon, it's killing!

I have to agree with you about aircraft polly, the air on planes in flight is recycled, which I'm sure our friendly neighborhood pilot will confirm if he sees this thread. I'm sure the air on planes is not filtered to the extent which would purify it

Re: swine fever.

The year before I retired a colleague said to me, in about October, "I've bought a frozen turkey because there'll be none in the shops by Christmas." That was the dreaded bird flu. There were plenty of turkeys that Christmas and the bird flu didn't decimate the population.

We've had 8 cases, so far, who have come back from Mexico with the swine flu. They haven't died. There may be an epidemic on the way but we've had flu epidemics before and they all have the potential to kill.

Let's not panic, it doesn't solve anything.

Think your right West Ender, from what I've heard and read about this swine flu its no more dangerous than the normal winter virus which floats around every winter, its dangerous to vulnerable groups as are all strains of flu, we just have to take the same precautions, and in the words of corporal Jones Don't Panic
