Re: Children and Talent shows

i made the same point on another forum - it wouldnt have been so bad if she got out in the main group

but takin her infront of the judges and when simon goes i'm going to take into consideration the large number of dance acts she's thinking oh yeah he's gonna put me thru

and then he puts them thru

its horrible she's going to be really upset for a few days

Re: Children and Talent shows

life is full off disappointments and losing out to others that may be better than yourself... and I think as others have said, this is being taken away from kids nowadays but is a valuable tool to learn on how you handle these disappointments.

I have watched BGT off tape today and have to agree that she wasn't as good as her audition and the chances are her parents did prepare her for the chance she wouldn't get through, but it wouldn't stop her getting upset anyway! She's still a kid!!!

Re: Children and Talent shows

When I was a child I entered lots of Sports Days and I only ever once won (long jump - surprising as I'm short). I entered a swimming race when I was 9 and I honestly thought I'd won because when I touched the other end I couldn't see anyone else beside me - they were all getting out, I was last.

Life's full of ups and downs. I think it's healthy for kids to experience the odd disappointment just as much as success. That little girl won't suffer, unduly, from not winning. She cried because everyone, with the best of intentions, had been telling her how good she was and that she could easily win. Next week she'll be telling her friends all about it and what Simon Cowell was like etc., etc.

Agree with you West Ender and with HR, children just wear their heart on their sleeve and have not learnt the art of 'stiff upper lip'. They won't knock themselves out about it, unlike an adult who will take the failure to go forward in this competition as a personal rejection and a knock to their self-esteem .. not all of course.
