Yes, there are just over £2.2m in reserves and the amount generally considered to be an acceptable bare minimum contingency fund is £2.5m so I'm afraid that argument doesn't wash with me at all, especially at a time when the future stability of the council is threatened by government decisions.
The local Conservatives moan that the last government spent all the money whilst at the same time seemingly crying because we
aren't spending all the money. Give them their dues, they know a populist bandwagon when they see one and aren't afraid to jump on it.
With Cllr Britcliffe up for his county seat next year I suspect we haven't heard the last on this matter.
