I have just read them and while i can see they are not great literature i'd give him 6 out of ten for trying. They are not really childish -just a little twee and to be honest he hasn't put anything of himself in them -though these two are about the royals so perhaps that's why!
It's hard to write something original and poetry is probably the hardest form of all. You have to open up yourself and express what's inside to transmit emotion and those sentiments which we are all capable of engaging with.
