Re: Today in pictures
Some more churches from above the Arctic Circle
Ilulissat, Greenland, with our cruise ship out at sea
Sisimiut, Greenland, town established in 1764. The new church, 1926, with people gathering outside the church on the right, for a funeral
Steps up to the church
The people gathering. Some are in national dress, which is a white cotton anorak for the men and gaily coloured top and white leggings and boots for the women
Little girl and woman in national dress. There were lots of brightly coloured flowers, all of them artificial
The funeral procession wended its way through town and ended up at the cemetery
The old church at Sisimiut, built 1775, with entrance arch made from the jawbone of a whale. New church is above on the right
Reconstructed Viking church, Brattahlid, Greenland
Entrance and bell cote of the Viking church with reconstructed Viking guide
The new church at Brattahlid, with remains of a Viking house in the foreground
