Nobody does it like me.
I got a tax rebate last week, I considered the many things I could spend this windfall on, then gave in to being sensible.
My washing machine went terminal a few months ago I've had to put up with the expense and poor quality of cleaning at my local launderette.
So while the cheque was clearing I started hunting.
After lots of dead ends and set backs I was beginning to think perhaps I couldn't afford a replacement.
Then I saw a washing machine outside a shop on B'burn Rd...
The results of which almost had me starting the thread with "I'm not prejudiced but".
Well, those of you that know me know I couldn't/wouldn't stoop so low.
Anyway, it was outside a shop not far from where I used to live when Holland street still existed, I've used it many times before never had a problem.
So I asked how much? A dark brown voice replied £100 including 6 months guarantee. Well, that's a bargain so I asked when it could be delivered, Tomorrow morning.
Excellent I reply do you require a deposit? Give me £20 and the rest on delivery.
So promptly at 11 this A.M. a van pulls up, a different guy delivers it to my kitchen, right says I, Here's your £80.
In broken English he exclaims that there is something wrong, what I inquire?
Well he says the price is £130, no it isn't it's was offered for £100, look says he the receipt that he filled in in front of you says £130.
Excuse me? he didn't fill in a receipt, he put my name and address down on a scrap of green paper.
After a great deal of too-ing and fro-ing I told him which particular place he could now shove his washing machine he wasn't getting any more, he then told me £30 is a lot of money, I cut in and replied that I know it is thats why he isn't going to hike the price up take a hundred as agreed or take the machine. He took the machine.
Another trip to the Launderette for me in the morning, Ah, Well.
