After our excursion to the island we took ourselves off to downtown Dakar for the afternoon as the city centre was very close to the port. It was sad to see a modern city falling apart at the seams. The traffic was horrendous and there were cars parked everywhere - the only place to walk was in the road as the pavements were also cluttered with stalls etc -all business appeared to be done in the open.
It was also the worst place we encountered for hassling - and very difficult to get the hasslers to take no for an answer. Not a pleasant experience.
The first three pictures were taken in the main square.
- Government building complete with dead lamppost
- These lions don't look very happy!
- Another government building with typical car parking facilities
- Small mosque in a crowded street
- One of the main markets. The building in the background is the market hall, full of fly blown meat and stray cats
- Typical street stall
- Minaret of the main mosque
- Dakar community transport

- Art Deco-ish building in a street near the port
