Maybe politicians get their power from people taking them seriously. If enough folks laughed at them they might just dry up and blow away.

As far as I'm aware a "spoilt paper" majority has never occurred anywhere in electoral history, unless someone can tell me otherwise, so it's isn't going to happen now. Also, a spoilt paper tells a major political party nothing about what we do want. At least a vote for UKIP tells 'em we want a referendum on the EU for starters!
