As a general rule of thumb,
I think you will find that 95% of the time that I introduce percentages purely as guesswork of course, never with anything factual to back up the statement, 95% will be my favourite estimate of choice, after all if 95% is good enough for 95% of our politicians, then it should be somewhere around 95% close enough for 95% of the general public. (just to clarify one point though), I consider myself to be a member of the 6% that isn't swayed by statistics, I often find them inaccurate!
