Just been reading about marriages and some very romantic proposals leading up to them and it got me to thinking, which I have been known to do on occasions. I thought it would be fun, or maybe otherwise, to hear how inventive you Accrington Webbers were when proposing (proposing marriage that is!), and if you had gone to any great lengths to impress with some romantic or unusual setting.
MY Accrington bloke was the epitome of romance – NOT!!!! We had known each other a bit less than 3 months and were sitting in a pub (naturally!) knocking back a few, as you do. Can’t even remember which pub now – but think it might have been in Blackburn, definitely not a very impressive one.
He said, out of the blue, ‘let’s get married and go to Australia’. I thought about it for a minute or two, decided I didn’t have anything better going on at the time – or maybe I had imbibed too many gin and dry gingers – so I said ‘OK’. So we did and we did. Btw, that was 56 years, 5 kids and 5 grandchildren ago.
