As one of my more knowledgable coaching friends tell me, he might as well be on the bench for the distance he has to come back and get the ball because of the gap between midfield and front line. Imagine how much damage he could do if he was actually playing up front most of the game, and didn't have to venture further back than the D on the edge of the box
