Sorry
I agree ... esp. on the being talked down to thingy. I'm not unintelligent ... don't you just love English and its nuanced meanings. And I dislike being treated as a moron ... or a mormon for that matter. Problem with arguing about, say, religion with a born again Christian is that one always runs into his/her bottom line: the Bible is the word of God. The beauty of the language in the King James version, I can enjoy. I can go along with the beatitudes. I understand that much of the Bible is metaphor, the parables come immediately to mind ... my good friend, the late Father Bob Ogle, S.J., humanitarian and confirmed socialist had an interesting take on Job, a very problematic book.

Discussing politcs has its pitfalls too. Ideology becomes dogma. Party becomes truth ... a "truth" that views contending political truths as lies ... an interesting distortion of meaning ususally based on spurious logic.

But, bottom line for me is: I just can't resist offering a little ridicule to anyone who talks down to me.
