The tree is perched on the edge of the rock face, it must have a firm hold as the terrain and climate is not very friendly.
The whole area is known as the valley of stone for the number of workings and quarries that litter the area. The area fed the industrial revolution by providing stone for the factories to be built and flags and cobble stones to pave the streets, it must have been a very hard way to put food on the table.
