As far as the fire service response Retlaw I'd be inclined to note your opinion being as you're an old timer. But since your active days there's been many & varied technological & efficiency changes, added to that as you state they may come from various stations & according to the report that was the case.

All that aside the rest of the emergency services were also present in vast numbers & as such it seems to me personally that the response was excessive given the incident in question.

Still all of the above is largely irrelevant in that C'mon was appropriating this article in another one of his efforts at Tory bashing! Don't get me wrong, if people (Politicians) screw things up they're rightly deserving of scorn & upbraiding, but with C'mon it's incessantly sniping at all things Tory. I'm pretty sure that out there in the big bad World there's some pretty monumental screw ups perpetrated by libdumbs & even his beloved Liebor, but they don't come in for the bile & invective "Our man in the North" ceaselessly spouts! Balance in all things would be nice.
