Just while you're in the frame of mind that you might have lost it forever, consider what problems it would have caused if you
had lost it (other than financially, through replacement).
I mean emails stored locally, photos, documents, passwords, licences etc.
If you would have lost something important, forever, then it's time to consider your backup options. For most people, a USB stick or external drive is good enough, but maybe that's the basis for another thread.
