2013 Prediction League; Game 34 v Burton Albion (away)
2013 Prediction League – Game 34 v Burton Albion (away)
For a team in the top 5, they don’t put the ball in the net that much; they’ve won 10 games 1-0, and in the league they’ve scored three once, 2 seven times, one eighteen times, and none seven times. If you add the Cup games, played 39, scored 44 …………….. Makes you think!
The uniquely-named Zander Diamond (28) – ex Aberdeen, Oldham and Scottish u21 defender – has gone on loan to Northampton; they sold Rene Howe - aka The Big Beast - to Newport, after a stay of only 6 months (Kettering, Posh, Rochdale, Morecambe, Gillingham, Rushden and Diamonds and Torquay also being on his “once played for …” list) ……In on loan have come Villa’s Swiss u21 GK Benjamin Siegrist, Bury’s GK Rob Lainton (24), former Man U and current Stevenage defender David Gray (25), Wolves Albanian-born winger Zeli Ismael (20), Wigan defender Adam Buxton (21), PNE’s Aussie CH Shane Cansdell-Sherriff (30), and ex West Ham, Exeter, Swindon, Hull, Orient, Millwall and Brentford striker Gary Alexander (34).
They went out of the Capital One in Round One, 1-0 at Notts County; the Paintbox did them better – a 2-1 win at the Blades gave them a Second Round meeting with Fulham, which they lost 5-4 on penalties after a two-all draw; in the FA Cup they beat Hereford 2-0, Fleetwood 1-0 after a 1-1 draw away, and then lost 4-1 at Bournemouth. In the League, overall, they’ve played 33, won 14, drawn 11 and lost 8, scoring 36 and conceding 33, which gives them 53 points and 5th place ………that said, of their last 10 they’ve only won 2 (2-1 against Cheltenham, and 1-0 at Morecambe), drawing 6 and losing the other 2; that might not be promotion form – and they’ll remember last season’s play-off semis, when a 3-2 away win at Bradford was scuppered by a 3-1 home defeat.
We met them, you might recall, in Game 5 (31st August); we lost 1-0 to an Adam Reed goal timed at 98 minutes …………..Fergie would have loved that! Head-to-head is still in our favour, though; P9 W4 D2 L3 F13 A10; we won our first ever league meeting 2-0 away; we won at home 3-1 in 10/11, won twice in 11/12 (2-1 at home and 2-0 away) and drew 3-3 at home last season; we shall see!
Their leading scorers are strikers Billy Kee with 10 and Adam McGurk (25, who joined last year from Tranmere) with 9; no-one has more than 3 apart from those two, both of whom are Northern Irish u21 internationals
Deadline for entries is, as usual, scheduled kick-off time, which is 3.00pm on Saturday 1st March (which happily is St David’s Day, not St Patrick’s). There is a consensus that we really could do with winning this , and it’s not beyond the bounds of possibility ……………
Good luck to everyone …….. Remember, passion overcomes logic ……….. Keep the Faith! ………… and thanks for playing!
