About 8 years ago, I had about $200,000 of medical work ... 6 hours surgery ... a week in the ICU ... more time than I liked in hospital ... and home care. In my opinion, that's good value for my tax dollars. I realize that in Canada, we pay more for gas, smokes, and booze than they do in the US ... but most of us get old; and old means "sick." I think it's worth it.
But I do believe that conserving what's left of an area's natural beauty is important ... for the environment and for the soul. It must be especially difficult in countries like the UK, with a limited amount of space. We are lucky here that we don't have that problem.

I checked out a list of Canadian National Parks ... amazing places. And I hadn't realized that Wood Buffalo National Park is bigger than Switzerland
