For your cold/flu symptoms......inhale steam regularly......and steam on its own is a good way to ease the congestion and stop the bugs from making happy families. It also loosens any of the gunk that might lurk on your chest...making it easier to cough up.

For the aches and pains take regular paracetamol......no more that 8 tablets in 24 hours.
I know that this a pharma product, but it is a cheap and effective way to deal with the aches and pains.(two paracetamol have the pain relieving properties of 10mg of morphine, so just because it is an over the counter remedy, do not think it is a poor pain reliever).

Drink plenty of fluids......honey and lemon in a base of ginger beer(warmed in the microwave) is good for sore raspy throats.
And you know how to tell if it is a cold or flu...try the ten pound note test if you have a cold and see a tenner lying on the floor you will pick it up...if you have flu, you can't get out of bed to see anything let alone a tenner lying on the floor.
