If you have provided non-reversable id ( ie owd fart status) then you are unlikely to be asked. As Joe says it is more for varying statuses of concession ie students and under 18/12. Online sales in particular are hard to identify if the sale is valid without id, hence the covering statement.
At your age you probably just have to prove you are still alive when you collect your ticket
