Re: Notts County for die hard away fans?
Seem to be going against the consensus here, and obviously delighted at the win, but didn't think that we played all that well today. We were stronger in the first-half when Clark and O'Sullivan were buzzing around their alehouse defenders, and at one point I thought we could potentially rip them to bits with a bit more composure in the final third. But having taken the lead and created some excellent chances, setting us up nicely for the second-half, we let Notts come at us and nearly surrendered the initiative with some non-existent ball retention, especially from the back. Thankfully, Notts were shockingly bad, and when they did manage to fire off a shot on target, Aaron was equal to it. With Johnno nobbled, Coley brought Rommy on and we went into counter-attacking mode, often finding ourselves two-on-two when we did break. Rommy beautifully finished off one such move, and we then shut up shop and saw out the game. We definitely did benefit from Scotty's presence, he brings more energy to the middle than either Davies or Bastien, but the partnership with Clark - probably the best chance we have to replicate the Crooks-Windass dynamic - wasn't firing on all cylinders today. MOTM for me was Aaron, commanding presence throughout and made some crucial saves. Also liked the look of Vyner at the back, noticed that Coley swapped him and Matty after the hour when Zak appeared a bit knackered and vulnerable to their pacey winger. All in all, a cracking three points, but whether we've turned a corner we'll have to see. I'm not sure that Notts are a suitable benchmark against which we can make that judgement.
