May be you are correct, but is everything in business not geared round profit, I worked in local gov. and did the same thing as you "got out" because of staff reduction and increased workload,and a change in attitude of the managers who were only looking at fees earned.
I know the banks are there to make a profit, but its nice to be greeted in a friendly manner by the bank staff.
