2016/17 Prediction League; Game 37 v Yeovil (away)

At the end of the season it isn’t about how many games you lost; Carlisle and Luton are fourth and fifth, and have only lost 8 out of 37/36; Blackpool are 8th, and have lost 9; Plymouth and Pompey are 2nd and 3rd, and each of them have lost 10; Stevenage have lost 15 but are 6th, and Exeter have lost 14 and are 7th; Donnie, proving the rule by being the exception, have lost 6 ................. It isn’t about how many you win, necessarily, either; Stevenage and Exeter (6th and 7th) have won 18 and 17 – 3/2 respectively more than Carlisle and Luton, who occupy the places above them ......it’s actually how many you DRAW that kills or cures you .............. Donnie 9, Plymouth 6, Pompey 8, Stevenage 4, Exeter 5 ........... and Carlisle 14 and Exeter 13 .......win half your games and lose the rest, you’ve got 69 points, and the multi-drawers probably won’t have

With that in mind, Yeovil’s last 10 shows two wins (2-1 v Plymouth, and 3-1 at Morecambe last Saturday), two defeats and 6 draws ....... over the whole season to date, W10 D14 L13 for 44 points (the same as us, but a GD of -9 against ours of -2) and 17th place; if they’d won half and lost half of those draws, they’d have 51 points and be within striking distance of the playoffs ......... they hold, jointly with Cheltenham, the record for the fewest League goals scored (38), but their 47 conceded is bettered by only two sides in the bottom half, each with 46 in the “against” column .............and they are Grimsby, and ..............drumroll...............US! Worst, for information, are Notts Co with 65 shipped so far, and Leyton Buzzard with 63 (which was 58 until Tuesday night!) O’s manager Danny Webb said of last Tuesday, "It was a very hurtful night - certainly my lowest night in football" – no doubt made more hurtful by the fact that Newport won their second consecutive game to join the Os on 32 points, but to leapfrog them on GD (-18 plays -23). Without wishing them any ill, I hope that next Tuesday – when the winding-up petition is heard – isn’t more hurtfuller still ..............

In August they signed MF Kyle Copp (20) from Swansea, and in December they MutuallyConsented his contract (actually, it was a non-contract terms contract) and he joined Merthyr Town; on 25th August they also signed Izale McLeod from Notts Co, and on 10th November they MutuallyConsented him too, and he’s now with Corby Town of the Northern Premier League (Premier Division) ............. their only other signings – they never do a massive amount in the transfer market – have been Thomas Lynn James, a defender from Cardiff, and Brandon Martin Goodship-Lollipop (22) from the Cherries, he having been to Huish Park on loan 12 months before .................Loan signings a-plenty (5), including Jean-Louis Akpa Akpro from Barnet .....................

Last season we won at home and lost away; this season we met at our place when they were in a good spell (5 wins and 3 draws in 8), and we were the 3rd draw of those 8 games – a half-Desmond, Otis Khan scoring on 51, and Rommy B equalising after 91 mins to (a) give us a point, and (b) end our goal-drought which had run for 7 hours 30 mins ..............their leading scorers are striker Francois Zoko with 10, and fellow striker Tom Eaves and MF Otis Khan both on 7, but no-one has more than 5 goals for them in the League; for us, Billy Whizz still leads the list with 13 .....................

Deadline for entries is, as always, scheduled kick-off time, which is 3.00pm on Saturday 18th March ............... currently we’re on a roll of four wins and three draws in 7, W5 D4 L1 (at Pompey) in our last 10 ...........not only that, but our last three have been won without conceding a goal, while scoring 8..................... the BBC described us as having “thrashed” Leyton Ordinary – but what, as so often I say, do they know? ........Accepting all of that, we’re not actually THE form team over the last 7 played – that’s Stevenage, with 5 wins, one draw and one defeat (0-1 at Blackpool on Tuesday gone) – 16 points to our 15, but we’re unbeaten in those 7 and they aren’t; so there!
Good luck to everyone! ................ Keep the Faith! ............ And thanks for playing!
