I remember back in 70's they had the Runaround train ticket you could go anywhere in certain area that included the Lake district as much as you wanted everyday for 5 or 7 days for a flat fee, back then I think it was about £6? But don't quote me on that price! - I don't know if they have that still, but it was only for trains.
