You must have a wealth of memories...those are the things that you use as a lifebelt when the waves of sadness threaten to drown you...and pictures, you must have stacks of pictures too.

I know from my own recent experiences, these things were what made us laugh, they made us cry too...but really, they are a bit like a time machine.

You know how I like to compose bits of doggerel...this is one of the verses I wrote to express how we felt.

She left this life and closed the door.
She left us here, still wanting more.
One more smile, one more talk...
Another tale, another joke.
I'm feeling sad and so bereft,
For memories are all she left.
Memories do not wilt or fade,
They are the things her love has made.
Lovely verse, Margaret, brought on tears, thank you for sharing with us!

Can I share with you all a verse that I found, handwritten, tucked into Yvonne's will, presumably intending me to find, not her composition, presumably lifted from the internet:

When I come to the end of my journey
And I travel my last weary mile
Just forget if you can that I ever frowned
And remember only my smile
Forget unkind words I have spoken
Remember some good I have done
Forget that I ever had heartache
And remember I've had loads of fun
Forget that I've stumbled and blundered
And sometimes fell by the way
Remember I've fought some hard battles
And won by the close of the day
Then forget to grieve for my going
I would not have you sad for a day
But in summer just gather some flowers
And remember the place where I lay
And come in the evening
When the sun paints the sky in the west
Stand for a few moments beside me
And remember only my best

Yvonne's sister (79yr old), was brave enough to recite this at her funeral.

So much for time travel!

Thanks for starting this thread, Margaret, hope remaining replies are not as downbeat!
