Yes a brisk walk is the best, if you have'nt done any running, why put all those joints under strain.
I do a little fell walking as well, nothing to taxing, have done the 3 Peaks, Snowden and several others, at my own pace that is, good for the legs, and some great views, but I would not attempt to run, cause I have never done any.
