Hi

I am posting on this forum to see if anyone in the Accrington area has any information on how camouflage was printed on cotton during the war. In particular the camouflage applied to the twill cotton (denim) used to manufacture the Smock Denison Airborne Troops from 1941 until 1945. Some speculate it was machine done by rollers or traditionally screen printed however I have yet to see any repeat in the pattern and it appears as though every garment made during the war had it's own unique pattern. Could it be possible it was dyed by hand? I am asking this on this forum because of the history of textile printing in Lancashire and I am hoping that this process may have taken place there and someone knows someone who might have worked in such a shop.
