Speaking of computers and taxes -- Our brilliant governor has taken offense to the notion that she may not be getting her fair share of the taxes on goods purchased by residents of the state of Michigan. Consequently, she has pushed through our state legislature something called a "Use Tax" which forces us to pay Michigan sales tax (currently 6%) for items purchased out-of-state either in person or via the internet regardless of whether sales tax was charged by the seller. One can either keep track of each and every purchase and provide paper documentation of each transaction or simply pay a flat rate fee based on one's income level. Since I can never be bothered to retain every receipt from every little purchase made when travelling and I, too, purchase a good deal of computer components over the internet, we bite the bullet and pay the flat fee.
