He sued because the papers said he had, and he won, aided by his “elegant and fragrant” wife Mary (quote is from Mr Justice Caulfield, the trial judge). He was Imprisoned years later for perjury (lying under oath) and Perverting the course of justice
Don’t think that combination of facts necessitate the word “allegedly” any longer
