Why Dover? Across to Yorkingshire Hull (90 mins or so), on the boat overnight to Rotterdam then if you do it in a oner you're talking about 9 hours through to Rettenberg.
But as you're not in a rush stop over halfway, overnight at Koblenz/Mainz that sort of area which is also a nice region (Rheinland Pfalz, Wine production
), then toodle off the next day or stay a while, then when you do head off you've got about a 4.5 hour run down to Rettenberg.
You know you want to, so quit with the lame excuses!!!
PS. You don't even have to go through Belgeek land & most definitely not through Grenouille country, just the friendly Cloggies flatlands & then the Autobahn masters Germany!
