Re: 2021/22 Prediction League; Game 22 v Bolton Wanderers (home)

Mike A Makes His Move

Well, some of you may have assumed that Tuesday evening’s result had caused me to slit my wrists , and that was the reason for me not posting an update after the game ….. well I didn’t, I guess I just wiped the event from my memory . Did we win, the way 85% of us assumed we would, after thrashing the Cod Squad ? Oh no, it’s coming back to me now …..

Only LongLostSon thought we’d switch from glory to shambles, and he only picked up the bare 3 points for his troubles, which wasn’t enough to improve his 7th place standing. The only other points scorers, all getting a single BP for the “Wombles 2” part of a forecast Desmond, didn’t make great progress either . At one end, Ange B stayed in 8th, and at the other Tommy McQueen didn’t move from 27th. In between, Monkey Hanger did climb from 14= to 12th, and Lord Stiffupperlip squeezed past DaveinGermany to take over 24th.

Moving swiftly on to happier times , predictions went from boom to gloom for the visit of a load of cobblers, with only 12 of us heeding Div3North’s instruction to keep the faith , with 8 clambering onto the fence and 7 leaping over it . 4 of the 12 landed maxis : Mike A’s seeing him soar onto the podium, 6th to 3rd; AccyTom18 similarly soaring onto the top table, 15th to 8th; Tom D matching him with a move from 21= to 14th; and even me managing 18th to 12th. Of the other 8, who all thought we’d score more, only Cashman picked up the single bonus point for Toby’s clean sheet, his resultant 4 points closing the gap on faithless Shurm to just 3 points (51 plays 48, with Mike A on 46). Of the 3-pointers , DaveinGermany and Outback Ozzy made the best progress, up together from 26th/27th to 21st/22nd. Almost everybody else got a point one way or the other.

For completeness, I’ve attached the table after the Wombles game as well as the latest one, in case anyone actually cares ….

So, roll on Wednesday next Saturday . 2 wins from 3 consecutive home games against shall-we-say “moderate” opposition perhaps sounds more disappointing than 3 wins out of the last 4. I have to say the next 6 games look rather fraught with difficulty , and the next two possibly the most fraught . But that’s just me ….

On Stanley On!!
