They have had this system in NZ since about 2003 and it works quite well. Smokers tend to go to the designated smoking area outside the pub/restaurant. There are ashtrays and usually some form of shelter provided. However, the weather is usually warmer than ours, although it can rain a lot..
I'll miss my fag with my drink in the pub, but I will probably smoke less if I have to keep getting up to go outside. That's one more mac for you to get Garinda.
