Re: 2021/22 Prediction League; Game 23 v Sheffield Wednesday (away)

Sheffield Wednesday

v

Accrington Stanley FC

Update

2021/22 Prediction League Game 23; v Les Harfangs des Neiges

So; Wednesday on a Wednesday becomes Wednesday on a Tuesday ..... I think ............ And my hope is that Wednesday's six goals against Cambridge on Saturday is a bit like going to the sweet shop on a Saturday used to be, blowing all your spends (duck, peas and potatoes? Liquorice sticks?), and guzzling the lot - leaving you nothing "in the tank" for the middle of the week ..........

Starter for Fifteen, then - allowing for inflation and VAT; Amsterdamsche Football Club Ajax (hereinafter "Ajax") won the Dutch Cup in 1969/70, beating PSV 2-0 in the Final ............ but what was more than a little unusual about them contesting that season's Final, never mind winning the Cup?

And perhaps I should ask ......... what do Shrewsbury have five of, Fleetwood have four of and the Stanley have three of so far this season?

No player squad changes since we should have played them a month back; since then they've played five in the League, winning 3-1 at Donnie, doing over Charlton 2-0, Burton 5-2 and Cambridge 6-0 at Hillsborough, and losing 3-1 at Lincoln (12 points from 15, scoring 17 and conceding 6) ......... Hmmmmm ........ Currently they're 7th, and just outside the Playoffs, with 64 points from 36 games .......... Plywood - who we play on Saturday (unless the World comes to an end on Friday) - have 65 from 36, fifth-placed Slumberland have 66 from 38, Oxford have 68 from 38, MK Donuts (currently the Form Team) have 73 from 38, Wigan have 73 from 35, and Rotherham have 77 from 37 ........... Wigan's to lose, then ..........

Deadline for entries (if you haven't already entered and/or don't want to change an existing winning guess (?) is scheduled kick-off time, which is 7.45pm on Tuesday 15th March ........... On this day in history Julius "Take That" Caesar got his in the Senate (44 BC), King Louis XV declared war on Britain (1744), Cricket's inaugural Test between England and the Aussies began at the MCG (1877 - and we lost by 45 runs in 4 days, just to prove that nothing changes), Finland gave women the vote (1907), and "My Fair Lady" opened in New York (1956)

And in the 1970 Dutch Cup, Ajax met AZ Alkmaar in the "Round of Sixteen" and lost 2-1 (Ajax's goal scored by Johann Cruyff ......... however, in as yet unexplained circumstances, the KNVB found themselves with only 15 teams left in the competition at that stage, and so there was a draw of some sort - or maybe a bribe, I know not - for a "Lucky Loser", which draw Ajax won ........ and much to the KNVB's embarrassment they won the Cup as well ....

Probably not unique, but the nearest I can find to Ajax's Triumph is when Denmark won Euro 92 despite not actually having qualified for the Finals .... they were included at the last minute when Yugoslavia (remember them?) were forced to pull out

And we have three straight reds this season, beaten only by Fleetwoof (4) and the Pointy-Nosed Furry Things (5) ........ according to the chart I read (1 point for a yellow, three point for two yellows = red, and five for a red) we're the second-worst side, behind only Charlton ............ all to do with duff refereeing, I'd have thought .............

Good luck to everyone! ............. Keep the Faith! ............ And thanks for playing!

COYR!
