Re: Bolton Wanderers Match Thread 25th April 2023
What a superb result for the Stanley tonight at Bolton! Fully deserved it was too! A real ‘Braveheart’ performance from every player. Stanley started very positively right from the kick off with Mitch Clarke intercepting Bolton dilly dallying about from the kick off. Coley set the team up with three centre half’s and two wing backs when not in possession but with Sean and Mitch getting forward when we were in possession. Seamus made a massive difference in central midfield, never panicking and supervising his team mates very effectively. His was a proper ‘Captain’s Performance’ tonight.
Muppet Charles had one half chance early on but he was well marshaled by Harvey, Notts and Doug Tharme. Up front Pressley won a lot of ball in the air with Lowe chasing everything! They certainly put Bolton’s defence under a lot of pressure.
The goal came at a good time from a great cross from Sean with the battling Lowe heading it back in to the middle. Hamilton moved it sideways and made just enough room to get his shot on goal. It may not have been his cleanest shot but it was enough to beat Trafford who touched it onto the post. The ball seemed to take an age to roll across the goal and I was certain it was going to come back out off the far post. We were all so relieved when we saw the side netting bulging!
We all jumped up and down going bonkers!
When we had to substitute Sean and then Seamus I was worried that we would lose our shape. Harvey was struggling for the last fifteen minutes with what looked like an abductor problem but he dug deep! Dan Martin was out on his feet in the closing minutes too. We did sit a lot deeper for the last twenty minutes but with lots of brave tackles, blocks and great saves from Lukas we held out for a very fine victory!
When the final whistle blew Lukas sprinted the length of the pitch to celebrate with the Stanley faithful.
Yes, it was a true rearguard performance but this should give the whole squad more confidence.
ON STANLEY ON
KEEP THE FAITH
