From the distant days of my youth, as I recall, the chant at Maine Rd went something like
“Ewing passed to Leivers, and Leivers passed it back,
Ewing took a flying kick and knocked the goalie flat,
Oh where was the goalie when the ball went in the net?
Halfway up the goalpost with his knickers round his neck”
And I remember one game where Big Dave was in the centre circle with two of the opponent’s players when their keeper took a goal kick, and before the ball reached them he had them both flat on the floor …….or I think I do.
