is American. According to an American friend of mine he was taken to the States by the Dutch/German immigrants a couple of centuries ago. They got it from pagan traditions of the fertile hare, Spring etc. - allegedly.
When we lived in Whitby in the 60s a lot of our neighbours were USAF and it was through them I first heard of the Easter Bunny. They really made a big thing of it. It was their kids who I first knew of doing trick or treat at hallowe'en too and that's caught on here now so, no doubt, we'll soon have our own Bunnies.
Me, I'd rather have a Black Magic Easter Egg, thank you (hard centres please - oh and I like After Eight ones too, if anybody's listening, - my address can be obtained).
