Re: Cheerleaders at Stanley - Oh No!
The idea of cheerleaders (as in Ra-Ra Pom-Pom etc) is really naff.
However , I'm all in favour of things going on on the pitch at half-time and pre-match (most people would be seated well before the kick-off if my "early toss" idea had been treated seriously by the Club)
The problem is , as always , that it would need someone to organise this planned entertainment on a regular basis. The Club is highly unlikely to find the funds to retain such a person , so we're back to volunteers . Sadly , the goodwill of most potential helpers has already been stretched well past breaking-point and they are unlikely to commit themselves to another exercise in being p***ed about with no thanks for or appreciation of their efforts.
The only answer is , I believe , enlightened self-interest. For example , a third party (such as a local business) sponsors the entertainment and provides the personnel to see it through.
There's no doubt , though , that a "professional" football club should have something going on for the paying punters during the gaps in the two-and-a-half hours when no football is being played.
