Thinking about it, if we wanted to cut crimes of all sorts with this method we can:-
1/ Frightened of leaving your home because of burglars? Take anything you have of value down to your local fence sell it to him for next to nothing & hey, presto! No point in the burglar breaking into your house you haven't got anything worth stealing and the fence doesn't want the stuff he steals from your neighbour because his warehouse is overflowing with your property and he is having to sell it very, very cheaply because there seems to be a lot of cheap items for sale already.
2/Frightened of leaving your home because of Muggers? Just walk to the nearest busy street throw your money & credit cards down the nearest drain, then walk to a quiet back alley and hit yourself over the head with a brick.
If the muggers realise that no-one is carrying anything of value perhaps they will have to turn to burglary! (Oh no they can't do that we've already stopped burglary in number 1/).
