ART in Hyndburn

I have often said that I would be as eager to offer praise as well as criticism of the various doings of HBC and its minions, well here is a bit of the former for the latter.

HBC's Leisure Services Department, which runs Haworth Art Gallery, has scheduled some rather interesting exhibitions for the coming months.

Margaret Evans Fisher's Built Environments

Margaret's water colours record underlying patterning and colour composition of buildings she sees in Italy, France and nearer home, in places like Hebden Bridge.

Dates - 13 July 2005- 29 August 2005

The Fantasic world of George Wallace Jardine

Jardine was a well-known Merseyside artist and teacher who mixed together nature, fantasy and surrealism in his work with unique effect. This fascinating exhibition is organised with the help of George's close friend June Furlong and includes loans from public and private collections covering all aspects of his output.

Dates - 13 August 2005- 11 September 2005

Botanical works by Susan Christopher Coulson

A flower drawing by Susan won the 'Visitor's Favourite' vote in our 2003 annual OPEN exhibition. She shows how subtle tones and vibrant colour can be achieved with the humble coloured pencil.

Dates - 31 August 2005- 16 October 2005

While not "great" Art, the works of these three people are accessable, interesting and may provide inspiration by example. Admission to the exhibitions is free, the Gallery is a fine example of the Arts and Crafts movement and is home to the permanent collection which includes Tiffany Glass, English Watercolours and late Nineteenth century oils. There is a cafe, toilets and a gift shop too.

So there you have three afternoons sorted for the kids this summer; interesting art in fine surroundings and a good walk to tire them out.

I would be interested to hear if any members or guests went to see these exhibitions and what they thought of them.
