Re: London Underground explosions

Back in work, although I had to get through the police cordon and it took a very long time. As of last night, there was still rescue work going on underground on the Piccadilly Line and the bus is still there, or pieces of it are, this morning.

Thank you all for thinking of us, and all your messages. Our phone at home rang so many times yesterday with friends and acquaintances asking if we were okay - some most unlikely people, too - a business associate of David's rang us from Alderney. Thanks for your pms, it is a great support. The horror of it doesn't bear thinking about - I don't like the Tube at the best of times, but being trapped underground is my worst nightmare. I shall, however, continue to use it. On the bus this morning, strangers were chatting, discussing matters, and the general feeling seems to be that we will fight back, if only by going about our normal business.

There is a strong suspicion that a suicide bomber was responsible for the bus outrage. The powers that be are saying there were only two fatalities, but that is not what one of the emergency services at the scene told me yesterday. His opinion was that they would not know for some time how many people had been killed, because of the awful scale of the damage. I did offer any help I could, having been a nurse, but apparently Health & Safety raises its ugly head again. All we could do was offer coffee and loo facilities. There was a lot of confusion, no-one seemed to know for ages just what had happened and where. I think the general consensus is that it could have been far worse, and we can only thank whatever God we believe in that it wasn't.

Thank you all again for the kind thoughts - we have to remember that there is good in this world, even though there are creatures who will carry out such awful acts.
