Going back to the original point, in fact before becoming the hero of the hour, Flintoff was shamed in the press before he became the golden boy of English cricket. Before he was married recently, and became a father, he featured in many stories regarding both drinking and sexual excesses to put Gazza to shame.
I suppose he was knocked off his pedestal before he ever got on, only to be knocked off again when he did.
In answer to Willow's point that there isn't too much celebrity drivel in her paper, you must admit that it has a lot more than it had twenty years ago. Even the voice of middle England is influenced, by the popularity if the soar away Sun.
