Well you can save up your ackers to buy things with (especially if you have a pet) or you can just hoard them in the bank and offer them as prizes to anyone if you do a quiz post or question type thingummy. (You can also nick 'em off other people but I'm innocent of such behaviour.)

The karma points relate to what people think of what you've said, so if they agree they give karma and if they disagree they take karma off you. Or sometimes if they are just peeved and in a nowty mood they take karma off you and give a silly reason for doing so.

The more power you have the more karma you give or take each time. Giving is always highr than taking. (I think you take half as much as you give) - so if you see someone with a lot of karma it either means a lot of people agree with them or people with a lot of power agree with them. If you see people with not much karma it can either mean people disagree with them, or they haven't been here very long or said very much yet for people to agree or disagree with.

Of course none of it is real in the unltimate scheme of things but by saving my ackers I was able to buy a purple name (to replace the purple name I bought before the ackers revolution which had become green due to forces beyond my control.)
