But that's the whole point of a tribute band, to get as close to the original as possible.
The whole tribute scene started in Australia because most famous western acts wouldn't play there as it was too expensive to ship all their equipment over, so people formed tribute bands to sorta make up for it.
I know what you mean about current bands though. Most tribute bands on the scene are tributes to dead musicians, long defunkt bands or classic bands that only play occasional gigs now and then but it does seem a bit strong when you hear of a tribute to a modern act that are constantly touring. It's kinda going against the whole point of tributes.
At the end of the day though, tributes are a very popular form of entertainment. My own band Slack Babbath attract quite a good crowd of people who come to see us again and again and usualy, if we get a return booking at a venue, we have more people there the second time we play so we must be doing something right.
