In all the Christmas's that I can remember, and there have been more than I care to mention, never once have I heard Retailers say that they are looking forward to a bumper Christmas. Never. Not Once.
This season, the economy is still puffing along merrily, although maybe not as speedily as it was. The housing market is springing back to life, inflation and unemployment are still under firm control and the UK is outperforming Europe in almost any economic indicator you care to mention.
Yet depite all this positiveness the news from the High Street might have come straight from the recession hit 1970's....
