Three years ago I was asked to have Christmas lunch at my friends, who had just moved into their new house in Glasgow.
The 18llb bird was smothered in butter, wrapped in bacon and tin foil, and duly put in the oven at an hour that would mean it would be ready for us to sit down to eat at abour four o'clock.
Sadly as well as a new house, it was also a new oven. It wasn't until three o'clock that they realised that Big Bird had been under the grill in the combination oven for six hours. We eventually had our Christmas lunch at ten at night, by which time were were all too drunk and full of nuts to eat more than a few mouthfuls.
