Re: £3000

Lack of funds - what a laugh. When I worked at a London Hospital, we had one patient who had come on a student visa, who had a blood disease which only affects people of his racial origin. We got clearance from the DoH to treat him - at a cost of £45,000 a week!!! Yes, I haven't got the noughts wrong, it was £45,000 a week. This guy had never paid anything in, and had a month's treatment free.

I also for a brief and unhappy period worked in Immigration Law. Sitting in on one meeting, the couple seeking asylum had to have a French translator. She was urging them to beef up what they were saying, and telling them that it wasn't strong enough. She was, quite literally, telling them what to say. You can imagine her face when I said, "Et moi aussi, je parle Francais"!

The international law on asylum is quite clear. If you are a geniune asylum seeker, you MUST seek asylum in the first friendly nation whose border you cross. If you do not do so, you have forfeited the right to asylum. So what price all of those who travel across Germany, France and Belgium, to reach the UK? In law, we don't HAVE to consider them for asylum at all.

The word asylum is an appropriate one. That is what this county is becoming, and the loonies have the keys.
