Palmer calls time on major career
Palmer is one of golf's most popular champions
Golf great Arnold Palmer bid an emotional farewell to his 50-year major championship career on Friday.
The 75-year-old - winner of seven majors and five more at senior level - shot an 81 to miss the cut by a wide margin at the US Senior Open.
"My tournaments are getting down to a very few. As far as trying to compete in majors, this is it," said Palmer.
"I'm through doing it and I'm not going to do it anymore. It's not fun when you play as poorly as I played."
Palmer has not won a tournament since 1988 and has not been competitive in events for many years.
My golf is so lousy I expected them all to go home at noon

His first major tournament as a pro was in 1955 at the Masters, when he tied for 10th before going on to win at Augusta in 1958, 1960, 1962 and 1964. H
