I think he's admitted that he put them in the bin because he didn't know it was an offence. Neither would I have known that. There are loads of times we've taken things from the house and disposed of them outside - an apple for example, putting the apple core in a litter bin; a can of pop, throwing the empty can in the bin.

There was something in one paper saying he dumped a bag full of rubbish in the litter bin but he's denied that.

What are litter bins for if we can't put out rubbish in them when we are out?
