It's a cost-cutting measure. The trains operate like buses, you're supposed to get your ticket from the conductor. Church & Ossy doesn't even have a booking office to be open. But you have to admit, the train journey between Accy and Leeds is spectacular, and the scenery is free. The added bonus is that you get to look at it, which you don't when you're driving.

Strictly speaking, Church & Ossy isn't a station it's a Halt,
agree totally about Accy station though, I remember when there was a proper waiting room on the Blackburn side, it sometimes even had a coal fire in Winter.
