In our case katex, age denies us the opportunity for another child but if that was feasable, we would have included that possibility into the equation when we discussed the use of 2 names as a surname. My "southern" step-daughter kept her original surname when I married her mum but she had and still has a good relationship with her real father. Even now at 28, she talks about her "two" dads. It can't get better than that! but the difference is that she was only a toddler when we married and grew up in that situation.
