Thumbs up July 1st 1916 - 2006

It has been reported in the L.E.T. that Hyndburn council, that is Peter Britcliffe along with Bill Turner, local historian and author, have announced an open air service and civic parade on the 1st July to commemorate the 90th anniversary of the Battle of the Somme in which the Accrington Pals suffered devastating losses on the opening day of the battle. This will include a two minute silence.

The Baxenden Bash Fair will also form part of the commemorations, and the Haworth Gallery will have an exhibition entitled "Our Dear Pals, the Somme and the Great War"

Accy town hall will be showing films of the Pals and the First World War and the Ossy Players will perform a play on BBC Radio Lancashire.
